As Black Women read my new relationship book Dear Ms. Educated Black Woman, I am surprised by their shock regarding my rendezvous with The First Lady. Maybe it’s because she’s happily married to the most powerful man in the world. Or, maybe they figured she’s too beautiful, too educated, too high-brow, or too Chi-Town for a country boy like me. Maybe they didn’t understand that the entire episode with Mrs. Obama was a daydream.
Regardless, it brought to my attention that many Black Women may simply misunderstand what Brothers like. I mean, am I at fault for fantasizing about a tall, chocolate, Ivy League Educated Sister that’s rich! Who doesn’t? Plus, respectfully I’d like to remind you that she’d also place well in a Ms. Apple Bottom contest (wink wink). Every since The Cosby Show’s Claire Huxtable showed us the epitome of a strong, sexy, Educated Black Woman back in the day, many Brothers have been trying to get one. Okay, I’m married to one; and don’t mean to sound greedy. And, maybe I should have mentioned that as having something to do with the initial responses to my book. But, in the words of the profound Steve Harvey, “Don’t Trip…He (God) Ain’t Through with me Yet.” I’m joking. I have tremendous respect for my wife, Mrs. Obama, and the POTUS. I am particularly happy that the First Family is a tremendous example of Black love.
Dear Ms. Educated Black Woman explores the evolving dynamics affecting Educated Black Women in romance with Black Men. It’s the “real talk” that we’ve needed to have for a while. Fiction, non-fiction, hip-hop, film, politics, and religion are all used to explore how we have gotten to some unfortunate circumstances regarding Black love, and how we can do better moving forward.
Although I’m pretty self-disciplined when it comes to shopping, sometimes I just get an urge to go to a beauty store and look for anything new I can buy. It’s like a kid in a candy store. Everything is so pretty, colorful, and oh so tempting! Click below to see my recent purchases from Sephora and Ulta. Some are products I have re-purchased, and some are totally new products I’m trying out for the very first time.
Disney’s “Oz the Great and Powerful” was such a visually stunning movie to watch! I loved the imagination, creativity and most importantly, all of the female characters. Their beautiful costumes to perfectly done character-based makeup were all so intriguing. I was especially stunned by Glinda (played by Michelle Williams). Her glowing skin and silver shimmer accents on her eyes were all so remarkable to capture the spirit of the Good Witch of the South. If you would like to see how I recaptured her makeup look done in the movie, please watch below.
We all know that taking care of ourselves with beauty products can become a little pricey. There’s a product for every purpose. Specialized products for face, hands, nails, body, feet… Every part of our body can be beautified by some product that is targeted only for that area. In search of trying to find ways to cut costs, I have found few products that can be used for more than one purpose. Some of these, you won’t even find in a beauty store. Don’t get me wrong. I own tons of products for my daily routine. But, there are still ways to use your household products for a beauty fix. Watch the video below for some of my findings!
If you got it, you got it. But, most people never had it and spend hours a day trying to get it. The bottom line is that it’s hard to be fly! Styles change, bodies change, and your change may not add up.

Where does the time go? I can’t believe it’s March already! Almost ready for spring! I have been fighting a battle with the weather lately and my skin has been suffering. It’s freezing, then warm, then windy, and now hot? For my favorites in February, most of my staple products that I’ve used on a daily basis are to fake that healthy and glowing skin during the harsh weather conditions. No matter what, we can’t have perfect skin all year round. Unfortunately, you will see changes in your skin as seasons change and weather climates go from one extreme to another. My skin has been especially dry during this winter and I am doing all I can to find hydration. Drinking a lot of water and applying heavier creams all help, but there are also simple makeup tricks to fake that glow. Here are my favorite products that helped me get through the cold February weather this past month.
Hi everyone! I’ll be guest blogging for www.faithindreams.com regularly so please visit often to read more about beauty products, how-to tutorials, product reviews and more. For my first post, I thought what better to share than my most passionate subject – SKINCARE. My motto has been “prevention is key” as long as I can remember, and I have started my skincare regime since my early teens. The better you take care of your skin (and health for that matter), the longer you can maintain a youthful and glowing skin. Obviously genetics, hormones, environment and age all play a huge part on your skin, but that’s why we are all in a search to find products that work for us. Some products I use in my current daily skincare routine work for me, others don’t really do much. The video below offers a list of the products I use and my thoughts on each of the products.
